Victoria Beckham Reveals Secret to 26-Year David Beckham Marriage

It’s been more than a quarter century since David Beckham and Victoria Beckham first spiced up each other’s lives.

Now, the Spice Girls singer-turned-fashion designer is sharing insight into the couple’s 26-year marriage. One of the reasons for its success? Growing and evolving together.

“So often in relationships, one will say to the other, ‘You’ve changed.’ Well, of course you’ve changed!” Victoria—who began her relationship with the soccer icon in 1997, two years before they tied the knot—told ELLE in a cover interview published Sept. 18. “You’re a different person when you’re 20 than when you’re 50.”

And then there’s actually supporting your partner during tough times. “He believed in me when a lot of people didn’t,” said the 51-year-old, who began her fashion design career in 2008. “He invested in me. At times I’ve been a laughingstock, people not taking my business seriously, but he always believed in me.”

Victoria has in turn stood by her husband, including in 2004 when his former personal assistant alleged the two had had an affair when he was playing for Real Madrid.

David said Victoria is “everything” to him. “To see her hurt was incredibly difficult,” he said on the documentary. “But, we’re fighters. And at that time, we needed to fight for each other, we needed to fight for our family. And what we had was worth fighting for.”

The Inter Miami co-owner denied the infidelity accusations, and he and Victoria—who share children Brooklyn Beckham, 26, Romeo Beckman, 23, Cruz Beckham, 20, and Harper Beckham, 14—have spoken out about how the media attention around the woman’s claims affected their marriage.

“It was the hardest period for us,” Posh Spice—who married David in 1999—said on Netflix’s 2023 docuseries Beckham. “Because it felt like the world was against us.”

She continued, “And here’s the thing: We were against each other, if I’m being completely honest. You know, up until Madrid, sometimes it felt like us against everybody else. But we were together, we were connected, we had each other. But when we were in Spain, it didn’t really feel like we had each other either. And that’s sad.”

David said Victoria is “everything” to him. “To see her hurt was incredibly difficult,” he said on the docuseries. “But, we’re fighters. And at that time, we needed to fight for each other, we needed to fight for our family. And what we had was worth fighting for.”
