Korda, who opened with a level-par 72 at Erin Hills, told reporters she was laughing with Thompson after an epic fail with her caddie Jason McDede.
Nelly’s caddie went to give her a hug like he would normally do after a round.
Only Korda completely aired him by accident.
Thompson caught sight of Korda’s caddie left hanging and so they enjoyed a good laugh about it.
When pressed for comment by a pool of reporters about what was so funny on 18, Korda revealed all.
“So Jason and I just had a really awkward exchange there where he tried to hug me but I didn’t hug him back,” said Korda.
Korda and Thompson were joined by England’s Charley Hull in the first round.
Hull matched Korda’s round of level-par 72, while Thompson fared one shot worse with a 73.
There were moments of controversy during the first round as Hull appeared to show frustration at Thompson’s pace of play.
Hull was seen huffing and puffing and muttering words under her breath while Thompson was standing over a putt on the 1st hole.
The Englishwoman was then seen sitting on the 9th tee box while Thompson was still putting out on the 8th.
