Nelly Korda needs to win a golf tournament whether it’s this week at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, next week’s Meijer LPGA Classic or a Korda Family miniature golf championship.
Korda, last week, delivered an impressive performance in the U.S. Women’s Open, finishing tied for second, two shots off the 7-under score of champion Maja Stark. Korda recorded her second runner-up post this season but the reigning No. 1 ranked female player in the world remains winless through seven starts.
Korda exists as the top draw at the 6,263-yard, par-71 Seaview Golf Club’s Bay Course. While the U.S. Open at Erin Hills represented a four-round marathon, the Shop-Rite LPGA Classic (June 6-8) offers a 54-hole sprint.
Linnea Strom defends here but Korda, atop the Rolex Women’s world rankings for a 100th week, remains a crowd favorite and logical choice for a potential 16th victory as a professional. Korda has reached the No. 1 ranking six times.
The talented 26-year-old Korda won seven tournaments (five consecutively) in 2024 as awards included Rolex Player of the Year, and Rolex ANNIKA Major honors for play in the five major championships.
If statistics determine champions then Korda had the U.S. Open in her hip pocket — first in strokes gained (+1.82), tied for second in greens in regulation (77.0), third in driving distance (273.7), tied for third in fairways hit (50 of 56) and fifth in strokes gained approach (+1.67). Korda failed to capitalize on strong play as her putting game faltered. Nothing dropped as she finished 53rd in total putts with 127.
