Novak Djokovic has revealed his partnership with Andy Murray ended after the pair concluded they ‘couldn’t get more out of it on court’.

The superstar partnership officially ended last week, just six weeks before Wimbledon.

Murray stunned had the tennis world in November by announcing he would be coaching his old rival.

Despite helping Djokovic reach the Australian Open semi-finals, where he was ultimately forced to withdraw with injury, Murray has been unable to prevent the Serbian star from losing his first match in four of his five events since.

The exception was a run to the final in Miami, where he was beaten in straight sets by Jakub Mensik.

Djokovic is set to play the Geneva Open this week as he looks to find from ahead of the French Open, the second Grand Slam event of the season.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion, speaking ahead of the tournament, admitted they had been unable to get more out of the partnership.

‘We felt like we couldn’t get more out of that partnership on the court, and that’s all there is to it,’ Djokovic told reporters.

‘My respect towards Andy remains the same, even more actually, I got to know him as a person.

‘I think he has a brilliant tennis IQ, he has a very rare mind of a champion that obviously has achieved what he has achieved, and he sees the game incredibly well.’

The parting of ways between Djokovic and Murray was understood to be a mutual decision.

‘Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together,’ Murray said after the split was announced earlier this month.

‘And thanks to his team for all their hard work over the past six months. I wish Novak all the best for the rest of the season.’

Djokovic said: ‘Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun & support over last six months on & off the court, really enjoyed deepening our friendship together.’
