Tennis star Coco Gauff has sparked widespread amusement after revealing the surprisingly small replica trophy she received for winning the French Open.
The 21-year-old American shared a TikTok video comparing her miniature version of the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen to a water bottle, demonstrating its diminutive size.
“Surely the tennis majors can do a better job with the replica trophies?! They are tiny,” Murray wrote on the social media platform, adding a laughing emoji to his post.
His comments came in response to Gauff’s viral video, which has drawn attention to a little-known aspect of Grand Slam victories. The issue affects all major tournament winners who must leave the original trophies with the competitions.
The French Open maintains possession of the actual trophy, with champions receiving only a small replica to take home. This rule applies to all winners at Roland Garros, who must return the original silverware after their victory celebrations and media obligations.
“It stays with the tournament. I’m going to show you guys the one we take home. It’s a lot smaller. It’s a mini replica,” Gauff told her TikTok followers.
Gauff demonstrated the size difference by placing the replica next to a water bottle, remarking: “That’s how small it is. It’s the memories that matter most. It’s very pretty.”
